When I went to Rotterdam, 2nd largest city in Netherlands, there is where I met Karen. She is my 1st couch surfing host. Without knowing who I am she just accepted my request and invited me her house and stayed there for two days. The most exciting part is at the moment where I was waiting for her. I have no idea who is the real Karen when I was waiting in front of the Rotterdam city station. I saw her with her fluffy hair open her hands welcoming and this is the part where two strangers from different part of the world met each other. We shared a lot of thing from politics to personal experience. Culture interchange is a crucial part to make this world a better place. I cooked rendang for her and her friend and we chat till mid night. We even went to watch Inception together. I was damn fun hanging around with a stranger that I only know for 2 days. May be this is the essence of Couch surfing. Btw she is a Dutch citizen from Curacao a dutch kingdom island in the Caribbean.
Yesterday I reach Halle a small town besides Brussels, Belgium. It was my first meeting with couch surfers. Jan who is a Flemish had a great Jacuzzi BBQ party. You know what at first when I received email from him, I thought it would be like one of the one in the movies where everyone gone wild swimming having sex drugs… Haha sorry I was an Asian who watch too movie from the west. But it turns out that it is like the one that we really can enjoy talking to other couch surfers who love to travel and greet us with open arms. We had a great chat and some drinks and the I like Jan’s dog a lot.. hehe^^
Sorry I need to go now~~ cheers^^
